I have yet to go to a reunion, but I do take great joy in looking at the photos. I often see relatives, by blood and marriage, in the pics! I loved spotting Karen (G); Rita!!(L), and Diane (B) of the 1970 grads. Many I didn't recognize, but those three looked the same! And how nice to see Marueen, who I used to work with at COARC. I am retired and living in Eastport, Maine. It reminds me of a small-scaled Hudson, much smaller, but with a great body of water quite near...actually surrounding the causeway island. Again, thank you for posting! Also, my heart and memories goes out to all those fine personalities who have passed on over the decades... several leave me with endearing stories.

One year ago on Sept. 2, 2008 many of us lost our good friend and HHS classmate Jim Bugsy Porreca after his 8 month battle with pancreatic cancer. This past weekend the Town Of Greenport  held a ceremony dedicating a water fall park and  ball feilds to Bugsy.......the JAMES PORRECA MEMORIAL FIELD. His name now lives on forever in the park  and town  that he  dedicated much of his time to. If anyone is in town stop and check it out  at the Town  of Greenport  Park on Joslen Blvd. A fantastic memorial to our old  pal Bugsy ! Will post some photos on here when  I get time.

Well it sure seems like fall here in the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains. The leaves are turning color and beginning to drop. That means one thing it's Giant Football season. Go BIG BLUE!!!! For you non Giant fans, fall means another weekend of raking leaves and preparing for ol man winter  and wishing you were Giant fans. As a youth in HHS,I loved sweater weather, still do. Now I just hate what comes after it,snow and cold. That really sux. Enjoy the colors of the fall in the great Northeast. Good health to all.

Sunday, August 30, 2009

I can hardly believe that this was the last weekend of August. I vaguely remember summer approaching. It seems like I just arrived back to Hudson, yet soon it will be a year.  Time passes too quickly.  Now I know what my father meant when he used to say “time goes by like a blink of an eye.”  I never imagined this to be true, especially as a child.  Now it would be wonderful to have the impatience of a child, along with not having the conception of time.  Perhaps then instead of wondering where summer disappeared to I would be wondering when it was going to end.

So as we transition into fall,I hope everyone was able to make some beautiful memories and that everyone enjoyed their summer!  I know some friends have kids going off to school, some graduating, and then there is me, who has a daughter returning to Hudson to make some decisions, "lovingly" wreaking havoc in my life!  I would not have it any other way!

Next stop . . . autumnal equinox!

Hey folks:
Hope everyone's enjoying the summer -- although in Boston it only just _started_ feeling like summer in the past week or so.
So, I'm going to be in town visiting my mother next weekend (July 24-26), and will most likely be going to the Namesake Celebration on Saturday. [Here's the Web page] Don't know if anyone else might be planning to attend, but if so maybe I'll see you there.
By the way, I can tell you that the band which is performing the Saturday night concert is excellent; of course, I might be a little biased because my friend Laura is the band's fiddle player.

Can still here him calling to me "hey, Bawby Tomawzo" in that New England accent ! He was a good man and is now coaching somewhere with Coach Hamblet, Coach Al Scarpinato etc. !!!

So are there any events scheduled that would be of interest to the Decade of the 70's gang?

I know Rusty has his anuual golf outing but other than that I know of nothing else.

To the Class of 75', is ther an interest in a 35 year reunion next summer? I'll help organize, provided there is the interest and others will help.

Have no fear; Lucy is still here. A little birdie named Drew from one of the Carolina states called me up yesterday to tell me about recent activity here.   Believe me, I feel very disconnected from a great deal of things and people. Has it really been almost 7 months since the reunion? Time flies by so quickly, and that certainly is an over 50 thing.    Hey Sean and Kiss . . . you guys are a couple of wooses.   You cannot tolerate the northeast winters? I absolutely love this cold weather . . . so far. I am happy I traded in all my experiences in Florida, contending with hurricanes, alligators, poisonous snakes and spiders in the house, and humidity, not to mention bad memories. [this is not the place to reveal ] I consider Hudson my safe haven.   I am glad to have been reunited with family and friends. I only wish I had more time on my hands. . . .there are never enough hours in the day, and it makes me upset that our bodies actually need sleep. I could accomplish so much more with those extra hours . . . . like keeping in touch with people, and checking out the decade website.   I have not written anything in ages.  Not here, not on my blog, not anywhere . . . and that makes me sad because that was my sanity.  Anyway, Kiss, thank you for inviting people to harass me.  Its okay. Maybe it is just what I need. Thanks for noticing I have been out of loop.
So now you have heard from Drew and Lucy. Two angels down, one to go. Cameron, where are you? Sorry I cancelled out on the hot tub/wine session. Next week?

The comments about the weather reminded me of the challenges I faced
 scraping
snow from my '68 Camero convertible while
at SUNY Utica/Rome.  Then came the rainy spring weather with gray skies and seemingly few sunny days.  The best times were during the summer!!  We've had a roller coaster of temps this winter in Lincoln. We started with about 7 with a cold windchill below that. Somewhere above frrrreeeezzzing now.  About Wednesday, we'll be having upper 50's
throughout the weekend (and some rain).
We go from winter to spring and almost summer, almost routinely!!  Parts of Nebraska may be in the seventies, while others are in the 50's or 60's, then we drop and do it all over again. I don't miss Hudson's weather, but the landscape, and especially nice folks (and family) are what
makes that area special to me!!
Hang in their Hudsonians!!  Spring is getting within reach!!

Well we are now about half way thru the winter and it really sucks.  I am so ready for a break.  No matter how long you live in the northeast the winters get worse an worse to deal with. Could be that over 50 thing...

Hope this finds everyone well.  It's pretty amazaing not to see any writings from Lucy or the gang. I know she has a new JOB and may have other things occupying her time.  Maybe if a few of us start to harass her and a few others they will feel compelled to come on back to the website.

It's only been a few short months since the last reunion and I am already ready looking forward to the next one.

Anyone from the class of 75' out there who may want to organize our 35th let me know and I will surely help out.

Now, here's a little something to make us all feel nostalgic. Cheech & Chong are going back on tour.
Yes, how many times did we crack each other up during our high school years with "Dave? Dave's not here!" or "Class! Class! SHUTTUPPPPPPPP!"
I actually got to see C&C in concert back in their hey-day; this achievement briefly gave me a ticket to the cool table at HHS. Very briefly.

The answer, of course, would be F. Valli and the Four Seasons.

I believe The Beatles' first no. 1 hit in the US was 1963/64, right? And their last would've been in 1970, since that's when "Let It Be" came out.
So I'm guessing the answer to Bob's question would be The Beach Boys?
Unless it's some real unlikely, off-the-wall answer, of course.

I would like to add to the  lovely Ms. Russo's  food review with the addition of EARTH FOODS on the  500 block  of Warren Street. Excellent sandwiches and  soups, many  vegetarian choices. The grilled portabella on their home made wheat bread is outstanding.

As for the Winter Walk it does bring out many people. Hopefully it is "winter like" that evening. Have attended walks in the bitter cold and have been  very unhappy to do the  walk in  50 degree weather............30 degrees with  light snow will do the job !!!

Just a reminder to all those in the area, the first Saturday in December the 6th is Winter Walk. It is a great time to once again experience Warren Street in it's glory.
For those who have never been you will certainly surprised at the number of "locals" who will be out and about.

Hope to see you all there. I will be at the new Real Estate office at 541 Warren Street, right next to Mexican Radio.

Hi Sean . . .my autumn is going well despite also having to go through readjustments.  It is good that your mom still has some friends in the area, and hopefully they are spry enough to bring her around to reintroduce her to the area.  I was fortunate enough to run into an acquaintance on my first weekend  back to Hudson in Shop Rite.  We hit it off and went apple picking and have been doing lots of things since then.  I have had the opportunity to eat at some of the local restaurants.  The main street, Warren Street is full of these. . .of course some better than others.  As far as strictly vegetarian, I am not sure of any, however, I know that the Red Dot offers dishes such as a curried vegetable dish that is simply scrumptious, as well as some delectable salads.  Baba Louie's had fantastic vegetarian pizzas and salads.  There is also a little tea house/café on third street, the Verdigris Café that on the day I visited, had a yummy veggie chili, as well as some hearty soups which were also vegetarian – split pea, and a equally yummy squash/carrot soup.    It is a pleasant little café decorated with lots of art by local artist, as well a variety of gifts.  There really are not any music cafes per se in Hudson, but there are occasional musical venues here and there.   On upper Warren, the Wonderbar provides the best burgers in case your mom has a change of heart.  I did have a delicious split pea soup there, and by the looks of the popularity of the martini there at lunchtime, I am guessing they make a good martini.  Next door to Wonderbar is another café that serve teas and coffees, and offers comfortable seating to have a conversation with someone, or to bring a book or laptop.   Cool bookstore would be Spotted Dog on Warren Street, where you can browse and also get a cup of coffee, tea or even a beer.  Of course there are all the antique shops and art galleries on Warren Street to peruse.   There is always something going on at the Opera House on Warren Street, whether it is an art class or a book reading.

Since your mom is moving from Western Massachusetts, I am not sure if she is interested in Great Barrington or Stockbridge at all.  It is close enough to Claverack to take a ride to.  There she will find a great deal of interesting things that are worth a day trip.

If you would like I can collect some of the informational magazine for your mom and either send them to you or her.   Please let me know if I can be of any help.

Since I am also returning after many years, I can only provide a few ideas.  Hopefully others will provide their input.

Lucy

Hey everybody!
Hope your autumn is going well -- we've had some pretty lovely weather in Eastern Massachusetts the past few weeks.
Anyway, here's the deal: My mother has just moved back to Claverack full-time after spending most of the last several years living in Western Mass. While she still has some friends in the area, being home again will take some readjustment, i.e., finding activities and places to go that will be stimulating and enjoyable for her.
For those of you who might remember her from Columbia-Greene Community College, or those halcyon Claverack School days, she's still as active, independent and free-spirited as ever, even at 76. She's lived in places like Somalia, Afghanistan, even Northern Iraq, and follows world events avidly. She's definitely not ready to just sit out on the front porch and knit.
So if y'all have any suggestions for interesting things for her to check out -- music cafes? cool bookstores? good vegetarian restaurants? -- I'd love to pass some along to her.

Thanks!
Sean

Lucy-
We were supposed to close on our house back in '91 the day that Hurricane Bob came through. Obviously, the closing had to be cancelled until the next day -- and so our house sat uninsured for 24 hours! Fortunately it's a pretty sturdy place and has been around for more than a century.
Will certainly let folks know if I'm playing within hailing distance of Hudson. Most of my gigs tend to be in Boston/Eastern Mass., but ya never know -- I almost played with a friend of mine at a Celtic festival that took place at the Chatham Fair grounds back in May (just couldn't work out the transportation).
Enjoy the fall everyone. And, hey, how do them Bluehawks look this season?

Sean . . . .isn’t it funny how we relate certain things to people or things in our lives?  In your case, you are fortunate that Kyle (the boyfriend) was not as destructive as a hurricane.  When I first moved to Florida in 2004, we got hit immediately by Hurricane Charlie, the day after our dog Charlie ran away.    I believed at the time, it was an omen of things to come.  Looking back at how tumultuous my life has been since I have been here is evidence enough to confirm my belief.

Enjoy your jam at the pub.   Maybe some of us here from Hudson can take a trip to MA to see you play some day.

Lucy, I reckon you must've brought along this hurricane/tropical storm with you from Florida. (My family and I find it amusing that this storm is "Kyle" -- happens to be the name of my younger daughter's first serious boyfriend; fortunately, he wasn't as destructive as a hurricane)
Guess I just won't be able to get at the lawn this weekend. Oh darn. Well, off to play tunes in a pub with a fiddler friend of mine. Y'all enjoy the last week of September...

Does anyone remember the translation  of “Ich bin ein Berliner” something said my John F. Kennedy in West Berlin?  In the context of his address, it meant "I am a Berliner. "  Urban  legend stated the literal translation as "I am a jelly donut.”

As many of you might know, I am returning to Hudson.  Somehow the translation of that got slanted and had turned into I am moving to Hudson to be with a particular person.  This make me feel like the jelly donut.

My plans to return to Hudson were in place long before I connected with anyone from the reunion.  As some of you might be curious, I just wanted to clarify a couple of things:

1.       No,  I am not pregant.

2.       No, I am not returning to Hudson to be with any particular person.

You have to put the past behind you, before you move on . . . . my past is Florida . . .my future is unknown.    My family and roots are in Hudson, and this is a great place of comfort for me, and a great place to think about what will be next.

I agree with Bob and Sean about this summers event. There is no doubt it was worth all the work put into it by the entire committee. Bugsy and Scarp are just two examples of why it was worth it. There are undoubtedly many many more.

Well, on an entirely differant note, Lucy is headed home. I am sure once she arrives Hudson will change forever. It's surely never to be the same. Let's the games begin. Bob be very careful as she and her compadres will be lurking in the dark.

Sheila, you have been very quiet, what gives? Laurie W and Paula Mixa where are you guys? Vance,Jeff? Shiela Reid? Eddie Conklin? Come on folks keep us in the loop.

Sean,

As a committee member I can say that all the work was worth it when I think how Bugsy Porreca and Coach Al Scarpinato both enjoyed attending the reunion earlier this summer.   It was an event that was important enough for them to attend even though it was somewhat of a struggle.

Hey, just want to say I am still thinking very warm thoughts about July 19; really was such a life-affirming event in so many ways.
Looks like my mother will be returning to Claverack on a full-time basis at the end of October (that's Prof. Nancy Smith, for those of you who might've gone to Columbia-Greene in the 70s or 80s). So I may be "passing through" a bit more often than in the past several years -- hopefully I can see some of you folks now and then.

Also, just wanted to say: I didn't know Mr. Scarpinato, and wasn't all that well-acquainted with Jim, but my condolences to all here for whom they were friends and/or mentors. I guess the consolation is that in this Internet age we have a means to share our grief in a way that wasn't possible before. Doesn't make it "all better," but perhaps keeps those connections intact.

Hey Tomas,
I believe I used the wrong last name as to who "Bugsy" got his name from. Can you set me straight?

Linda,
I was thinking of you the other night,no not in that way, as I was watching Kill BIll Vol 1 and low and behold there you were looking absolutely spectacular. I had never watched that movie before and was surprised to see your look alike on the screen. Awesome. Crazy movie though. I am however going to watch Vol 2.

Sadly I was not able to attend the service, but my friends shared with me how spectacular it was.  He was loved by so many people and deserved the fanfare farewell that he received.   However sad it was, it also displayed a joyous celebration of his life, which was so appropriate.   I was quite moved by what David Wrigley and Bob Tomaso shared with me about the service, and I know it was quite emotional for them both as well as for everyone.

Before the reunion, I had not seen Bugsy in years, but remembered he was always so cheerful and could make you smile.  When I saw him at the reunion – both Kozels and Polish Club, I saw that same cheerfulness, and I was so glad that I got to say hello to him and talk to him.  Seeing his happiness gave me a feeling of relief and I knew he would go peacefully.  Bugsy had such a positive attitude and enjoyed life.  It was so great to see that Bugsy was enjoying his life even though he was on his final journey.  I know I have not seen the emotions of all those closest to him who spent the last days with him, and cannot imagine what it was like.

Bob said during the service, he was probably was looking down smiling, and I bet a tear came to his eye also. . . I am sure it was a tear of happiness.   He was a very rich man, in that he was loved by so many people; and these friendships and relationships are worth more than anything.

He shall always remain with everyone in spirit.

I was fortunate to have been able to spend most of Bugsy's final days with him. When diagnosed in January I knew I would  be taking the final journey with my long time friend and decided to  go along for the ride with him all the way. We drove to Albany weekly for his chemo treatments which gave us time to talk about the  good old days. Things  took a turn for the worse two weeks ago when we went for his treatment, he was  hospitalized but wanted to come home. It was quite a struggle for him but we did get him home. His freinds  and family spent 24/7 with him, making sure he was confortable as can be. His highlight was going to the Chatham Fair, proudly escorted by the  Greenport rescue squad, Sherriff's dept., and State Police........that meant so much to him. Many of us saw him  in his last days and he was thankful for all the love shown by his freinds. WE saw him though this until the end.......a large firemans funeral will be held Friday morning at 10 AM for those that can attend.  WE love ya Bugs.

PS: One of his last good weeks was when he attended both days of the 70's reunion..........he was so happy to have been well enough that weekend to attend.

I had considered writing something goofy and encouraging a new conversation. However that can wait. I want to say goodbye to a fellow classmate. Having known Jim Porreca for over 30 years has been a true gift. If there was ever someone who never said a bad thing about anyone and meant it, it was Jim. His presence and smile will be missed. I know I have missed bumping into him at Dunkin Donut's  and talkinmg for a few minutes, usually about absolutely nothing.
Busy or as we often called him on the football field, Rockhead, rest in peace and know you will never be forgotten.

Wow!!  Looks like alot of reconnections
were made this year!  Cheryl, you ARE still
youthful- looking.  There are so many faces
that haven't changed much.  Those handy
tags with pics are great!  Just wish for some
of those who "changed a tad bit," we could
see your tags closer up.  Keep those pics coming!!
Any truth to the river cruise rumor in about years??

I started a traditional pen-and-paper thank you note but realized the best way to reach the greatest number of organizers would be to use your web site and blog.  Sheila, Matt, Bob -- all you committee workers -- what a wonderful event you put together!  Thanks so much for including me and so many of my teacher buddies.  I'm turning 60 in a couple of weeks, so Miss Bell made me feel better about the whole "getting old" thing.  I just viewed some of your photos and was sorry to have missed some of my "older" kids like Aly Parchuk.  Maybe next time.  Again, hearty congratulations and thanks.  Don't forget to check out the "Party More" section of your web site for an invitation to reconvene at the Columbia County Fair on August 29th.  I'd love to see some of you there!

First of all, I would like to thank the committe for making this reunion an awesome one!! It was wonderful to see my classmates that I haven't seen over 30 yrs, especially the few teachers that were there. When I saw Miss Bell, Mrs. Von Berberstein, I said to myself, "Wow! now they are the old icons of HHS" And when I saw coach Woods, I could remember when he had us doing those "jumping jacks -10 times evry gym period.
I was thinking about the reunion for a week and how everyone looked very well. (I'm telling you every at the reunion age very gracefully)!
Again I would like to thank the committe for making this reunion an wonderful one. I wuill be looking forward to the next one. Take care, and god bless!!

Judi Judee Judy!  You promised as you were leaving to let us know when you got home to Port Mary safely.  I probably shouldn't post my phone # here, but you can Google it.  That, or email me.

The years have been incredibly kind to you, my dear.  I find myself stealing glances of the picture where you're standing in the food line throughout the day.

Perhaps you will be visiting Hudson again before the next reunion?  Wouldn't it be great for a group of us to spend an evening together without the distractions of some of the "other" '75 classmates?

I apologize for having to post this conspicuosly on a public website but, alas!  I've lost your contact info.  Hopefully, that will soon change.

After living in Poughkeepsie and now Raleigh, I can say without any doubt in my mind that there is something different about Hudson people!  We may be a little "off" like Sean says, but I think that's what makes us even better!  The friendships endure.  Hudson is more like a large family instead of a town with people.  Every single person I became friends with in Hudson - are still friends!  Attending this reunion proved that to me.

Hey, great idea to do a blog!
Ironically, the first URL you put (which has "decade" misspelled) works, but the second -- with the correct spelling of "decade" -- doesn't. Oh well. Somehow that seems to be right for us...you know, just a little "off."

I agree with Sean Smith . .. it definitely was more than a reunion, and any cliques we happen to have in High School pretty much stayed there.  We didn’t so much break into sub societies instantaneously, as we did into natural classes of cliques based on values and ethics more often adopted from our home environment, or from an already established class . . . . like the hotties from SMA.  However, I did notice a couple of nerds, who were still nerds .  . . for instance Bob Tomaso;  let me see . . . jock  . . .I would say . . .Michael Sandagato -lol - you know we love you Mike;  I did go in my hippie shirt on Friday . . . my mommy told me so!  Remember, I was a hippie!   Adulthood is wonderful, and we do feel more natural and more inclined to express ourselves and recognizing the need to do so - good point Sean.

Sean, no need to apologize for prattling on . . . their was no prattling!   Your thoughts are quite meaningful and am sure appreciated by all . . . and I agree middle age definitely activates the “sentimentality gland.”  . . .of course, this is something I read, not knowledge from personal experience since I have not reached that age yet!!!

First , I want to thank my friend Theresa Robinson for convincing me to return for this reunion........ I HAD THE TIME OF MY LIFE!!!!!!! It was great to see all of my friends and classmates. I was trully sadden by the fact that many who still live in the area , choose not to
attend. I hope on the next on they will understand that life is toooooo short and tomorrow is not promised to us. I have so many pictures and plan to post them soon.

I just got back to Dallass late last night and woke up this morning thinking about the reunion. I pray that this site will stay up. This is an excellent way to communicate with one another.

It was great to see some of our teachers, especially Ms. Bell!!!!!! Exactly how old is she? To the reunion committee, thank you for doing an outstanding job in pulling this event together.

Oh, one interesting thing I learned Saturday: Thanks to their phys ed classes, St. Mary's girls apparently learned to be pretty good pool sharks.
Where was Professor Harold Hill when we needed him? "Oh, we got trouble...with a capital 'T' and that rhymes with 'P' and that stands for 'pool'!"

You know, I think the phrase "high school reunion" just doesn't do this event justice. What you had on Saturday was a place where all the social categories and sub-stratas that seemed so important in the past -- jock, nerd, hippie, etc. -- just didn't matter anymore. What did matter was that it felt perfectly natural to tell the person in front of you what he/she meant to you, what place in your memories he/she occupies; and it was OK to speak of all those small kindnesses which, in some way or another, made a difference during the high school years. People need to be able to hear, and to say, those kinds of things.
As wonderful as it was to see and talk to people you remembered well, it was equally delightful -- and enlightening -- to meet  classmates with whom you had little or no previous rapport. Again, it felt perfectly natural to reintroduce ourselves, because we all shared this time and place in our lives. Any time I leave an event having more friends than when I entered is time well spent, as far as I'm concerned.
High school reunion? I think it's more like a valuable social/psychological service -- maybe there's a state or federal support grant in there somewhere.
So, the organizers definitely deserve credit -- not just for the work, but for making a true, honest investment in the event and for realizing that in addition to being a fun summer's day it has real personal value.
My time in the Claverack/Hudson schools was relatively brief (7 years) in comparison to probably most here, and incomplete -- I transferred after sophomore year. But what I came away with Saturday was the realization that my connection to this place is stronger than I thought it was.
Anyway, sorry for prattling on. I think middle age activates the sentimentality gland.
Thanks, cheers, look after yourselves.
One other thing vis a vis this Web site: I know there's a "Help Us Locate" page, but would it be possible to add a "Have You Heard from This Person?" section as well? There were several people (Eileen Avery, Pam Moore, Tony Ziemba, Bill Bucholz, to name a few) I'd hoped to see Saturday. Of course, if they weren't wearing name tags...

Im putting out something on the site but I know more people read this page :) right now
As part of the committee I want to thank everyone for making it such a success. We all have a great time putting this together...
But this could not have been done without Matt Murell at the reigns and thats not always the most popular place to be.. He is the rock behind it all.  THere are so many little things that have to be taken care of at an event this large and he makes sure its all done!!! He has spent so much time making calls, planning meetings, getting all the so-called Back office work done ..The Budget for this event is a huge undertaking and he always makes sure it works!!!!!..He  takes the responsibility of that worry on himself. He is the silent and patient one of us.. You have NO IDEA what its like trying to keep a committee meeting in order..I cant count how many times Matt would say " ok... lets get back to the agenda"..we are a loud bunch and not always easy to keep quiet :) Sometimes we have tried his patience.. Im sure.. but he never lost his temper on us

Personally.... I want to thank Matt for being a great leader and a great friend.. a few times(ok maybe more than a few) I was losing it and he was always there to say " ok Sheila  Calm down its not that big of a  deal ,Ill take care of it or well get through it" and he was right !! He has been my support through all of this.  Poor Matt, that was his toughest  job. He will be glad to not see my number on his caller ID!!!!!

Luckily our committee is comprised of a bunch of really great people.... who work together, work hard  and like each other..
We are all a great team and love doing what we do.. but
 Every committee needs a leader..
 Matt was ours...
Thanks Matt from all of us

PS to Matt... I have to admit ... as much as I loved hearing from you.. I wont miss the three calls a day saying  "Hey Pal, whats the count up to now" hahaha
Your the best MATT!!!!!

Well now that I have had a day to catch up on some rest it's time to say some thanks you's and share some memories. As I said before many.many thanks to the committee. Awesome job once again. You guys need to be very proud of yourselfs and the job you all did.

It was great to see so many people getting together solely for the purpose of rekindling old friendship and beginning new ones. Old stories were told and new ones created and that is what makes this whole event worth it and so special. The only thing I am sorry about is that so many decided for whatever reason not to attend, hopefully they will make the next one.

Tomaso, don't change and keep up the good work. Shiela, there is no doubt you are the spark behind the scenes don't put that fire out. Pooch, keep bossing everyone around and keep em' moving. Nancy and Sue thanks for getting my buddy AnneMarie up, it is always a pleasure to get to speak with and  see her. Shelly,Chief(Dancing Harry), and the rest of the gang who looked out for me years ago and have remained friends ALL these years. Ronnie,Jeff and Pretty Smitty thanks for the hoop memories. We will always be in HHS history as one of the best, if not the best team ever.  I think everyone had it wrong though,Murph is the best player. Jeff be real careful of what or maybe who is in the bushes. Laurie,Jean,Paula and Cathy you guys together are pure trouble, all in good fun, I think. After spending so much time with you guys I will scared for life.  Ed,Coonhead,Gunner,Burro,Fincky all I can say is WOW!!! what memories and stories. Linda you sure did turn a lot of heads, you sure got it going on. Judy, or is it Judith, looking good baby. Gotta throw Kim in that little group too. George and his harmonicas sure did bring some energy to the whole party, he is awesome. Class of 75' lets make that reunion(35th) happen in 2010. Tina,Laurie Dave, and others have all voted Pete,Judy and Dave to head this up. They may not know it but they do now.
I'm sure I forgot things so I'll be back.

Let's not forget the Pollock Club, fantastic job. Special thanks to my brother Ned for his crew.

OK so what's the date for the next one.

1:00 AM - Monday morning.

I just returned home to Florida still quite elated from the weekend!   What a fabulous time I had!  I cannot begin to say how fabulous.  Thanks is owed to sooooo many people.   Again, thanks to the committee and their hard work and dedication, and thank you for keeping me in the loop - it made me feel like an honorary committee member.
Sheila, I know you said no love letters, but I must admit I am quite flattered.  Keep them coming . . .  it makes me feel SO YOUNG!!!

There were so many fun moments and now there are so many memories.  From the moment I arrived, exiting my father's red mini van, I received insults from Tomaso regarding my party girl reputation.  As I explained to him I never take my porsch out in the rain!  And my daddy got to chaffeur 2 young chicks to the party.

So many people made me laugh.  I swear the entire time, I walked around with a smile on my face, and still have one.  Oh, and the bathroom . . .I loved that air conditioned bathroom!

Everything was perfect!

Kiss, I am so glad that the angels and Paula helped make the day fun.  We are a bit crazy, but it is all innocent . . . except for Laurie who cannot stop thinking about licking your teeth!

Bob . . .what can I say about Bob . . . oh gosh, don't get me started. . .I had a blast with you. . . your incessant teasing, your quest to find me a man, singing with the class of 74, the soul train "whatever you call that thing we did" - dance down the aisle of people -too tired to remember what it is called.   Oh, and I never did find out who he was???  You know what I am talking about.    Oh and a special thank you Bob for that message from Jim Vasilow.  Thank you Jim for delivering that message.  You were clear, succint and TO THE POINT!     Bob - what a disappointment that I missed the wet "T" contest . . .but I am sure you and Pizza man  looked quite sexy in yours!

So much more to say, but I have to go nighty night . . . . work tomorrow. . .no more play.

Oh . . .I have pictures!  I will download them tomorrow.   fun! fun! fun!

Sheila, what an excellent job you did,we take we take our hats off to you! You are the man (woman), not Mr. T., it was a friggin blast this past weekend!! Seen a lot of long time friends. It's cool to still be cool w/ people for 35-40 yrs. I went home smiling afterwards thinking  about the  conversations I had w/friends that started with, "REMEMBER WHEN" ....... I heard and told some great stories (they get better w/the years!.) Last night it was funny when Smitty and Kondo were arguing w/ Ronnie about who was the best in little league, my cuzn Vance said he was and still is the best in everything, Mike Scalera. saying Cazzy was the best hoop player but we didn't pass him the ball (true story). Mr. Tomaso  has been taking a loooooong nap this afternoon....no longer use to being out two nights in a row. Mourning the loss of my walkie talkie......no more 1 Adam 12, 1 Adam 12.  74 pics up later this week.......sorry I am old school using film ! :~)   Pay attention also for official Fondel picture from 1974, that  picture was supposed to be our promotional pic for our world tour, seems as if things did not work out that way, but a GREAT picture none the less courtesy of the Danny Chidester archives. Thanks again to fellow committee members for all the hard work, thanks to everyone in attendance,  hope you all enjoyed. Special thanks to the following:
Larry Robinson and Billy Taylor for NOT forcing me into the triple jump competition, sparing me the embarasment of out jumping them by two feet; to Jeff, Ronnie, Keith , Vance and  Gregory for graciously stepping aside as the NEW king of   da hood took his thrown; Miss Bell for NOT making me square dance; to the  P-Club for putting up with us especially Sheila driving for "TOMAS - CAM"; to EVERYONE for listening to our not so sweet sounding versions of the CLass of 74 theme song "COME AND GET YOUR LOVE "; to Rita LaCasse, winner of  this years WET T-SHIRT contest (Lucy Lui, where did you  go? You snuck out before the contest even  went down); to the Hudson Register STar for the nice article  and picture in Sunday's paper; to the lovely Ms. Russo for making the skinny, geeky  guy from 9th grade homeroom feel good all these years later even now when he is a skinny , geeky, bald headed old dude; to Mariah for posing on my lap......and  a special thank you to the CLASS of 1974 !!!!!!

I had an incredible time! It was so exciting to see everyone again after so many years! Even though we have all gotten older, it seemed as though no time had really passed because the close camaraderie of us all still remained after 33 years! I will upload all the pictures I took from Saturday's reunion as soon as i get home to lake mary, Fl.

It was great to see so many people get togehter and relive some of the best times, life in the 70's at HHS/SMA. Awesome, awesome sight to see.

Linda,Laurie,Maria and Paula you guys are wacky. Thanks for a great day.

It will be good to see some of the comments soon to follow.

Well HHS friends (and family members), you only
have a short while for that rockin' big party!!  As it
turns out, this timeframe wasn't conducive to fit-in
the number of folks I want to see.  (Too large an extended family to see everyone without missing some).   Airline travels are challenging cross-country.
This site is wonderful and had reconnected me with some wonderful memories!  Maria, enjoy all of the gang you'll see there!  As mentioned, you and Linda look the same! Sheila, Cyn, etc., great to know you're all doing well!
Ellen, now you finally get to see who
you missed graduating with, after your move!
Hugs to All!!

...Bobby, Bobby, Bobby!-your last e-mail really, really, really shows us how much more delusional you're getting! ...Mariah wasn't really sitting on your lap, there are no big burly bodyguards coming to save you and you can be the King of the hood, because you can be anything you wanna be Bobby, OK?. and you grew up on 8th st.(tuff hood) and it took you 30 yrs. to walk down street anyway! ...(except flag day and winterwalk!) So Bobby you are the man (yea right), and you gots mad respect from the "posse",(what ever!), and remember just let us pass thru your hood (chuckle chuckle) in Claverack safely OK? :), looking forward to the weekend.  ...peace homeboy

Tuesday, July 15, 2008

Well it seems as if Ms. Russo's big burley bodyguards have scared some sense into Mr. Crank and his posse and they will make an appearance at this years event. As I write this post to the guest book it appears that Mr. Crank and another member of his   previously mentioned posse are cruising the streets of Albany, NY.......could it be that he finally realizes that Mr. T rules downtown and no long longer requires his "pass" to go below 3rd St?  Could it be the fear of Linda  "partygirl" Russo's behemoth friends in Miami? Or could it be that Mr. Crank has simply run out of girls in Hudson area?

Signed , The NEW Leader of the Hood.....Tomas !

If it's not too much of a bother, leaving up the Web site is a great idea. Since I registered a couple of months ago, I've had some e-mail exchanges with Hudson/Claverack mates I haven't seen in (gulp) 30 years or so. Would be wonderful if others find their way here, too -- might help generate some more photos, stories, etc.
Of course, easy for me to say: I'm not the one maintaining the site!

One thing I did find sobering, to say the least: seeing all the names of classmates from '76 (and the years immediately before and after) who have passed on.  Conway Keeler? Frank Thomas? Doug March? Jim Houghtaling? I was in Claverack Elementary with these guys. Not meaning to bring anyone down...Best to everyone and their loved ones. Long may we run.

I'm an HHS Alternate School alumni from the days when the Alternate School was cool and everyone else at the high school treated us quite badly...but I don't suppose anyone remembers that? Did go to the last reunion, saw who I wanted to see, moving to NC this year, won't be able to make it, sorry!  To all the Alternate School grads from the 70's - YOU ROCK!

Wow, so many familiar names and faces even after 30+ years.  I could not get to the 2003 reunion.  I would love to make it to this one.  I'm not sure if I will, though.
Thanks to those who do all this hard work.

Great job on the web-site everyone!  It may be difficult for me to attend, living in CA now, but I'll do my best to plan a trip back east at the same time.  Hoping all is well with everyone and a Happy New Year!

I was lucky enough to attend the 2003 class re-union although it wasn't my class. I had a special bond with so many of you......you were there for me at a time in my life when I really needed you. I tried to tell you in the humblest of ways how much you meant to me and honoring me by allowing me to lead you in the pledge of allegiance. It may not be politically correct to say this but God Bless All of You, and again...thank you!!!

I've had fun hearing from several school and classmates from both schools! Hope to make it back to see all of your smiling faces from our good old Hudson Valley "roots." Thanks to the fine folks who are making the efforts for this one! Take care, all!! Ann
